2) The distance from home to the pilot school must be within 5 k.m. or in the jurisdiction of the District Office providing educational coupons. 3) The duration of registration as residents must not less than one year (as of June 10th of that academic year). 4) The annual income of student's parents must not exceed 120,000 Baht. 5) The selection must be approved with mutual discretion of private and BMA schools in the pilot project. |

8.6 An Indicative Plan of Education for Gifted Children |

Recognizing the enormous capacities of the gifted children to the development of the country, particularly when Thailand is facing with economic, social and environmental crises, the Council of Ministers, since January 1998, has approved the country's first education development plan for gifted children submitted by the NEC. The Council of Ministers has also appointed ONEC as the main coordinator for the implementation of the four-year plan (1998-2002). The strategies and measures stipulated in this indicative plan are as follows. Strategies - Encourage families to play an increasing role in the development of gifted children. - Accelerate the production of more specialists and personnel in education for the gifted. - Reform the learning process to be learner-centred and provide innovations and new technologies concerning teaching-learning and development of gifted children. - Ensure that public agencies, non-governmental organizations, business and private sector, community organizations, provincial communities, various social institutions and media shall assume increasing roles in the development of gifted children and know how to observe their aptitudes, interests and talents as well as provide necessities promoting self-development of these children to their highest potential. |
