It comes as a great pleasure for the Office of the National Education Commission (ONEC) to present a national report on education in Thailand. This report, the second of the annual series, is aimed to be a path for comprehensive understanding of educational development in Thailand.
In addition to this publication, the report on "Education in Thailand 1998" is also accessible on the Internet through ONEC's web site : http//www.onec.go.th. It presents not only salient issues and current development of Thai education, but also includes information on such other important aspects as general background of the country, framework for educational development, educational administration and planning, curriculum and learning process, cost and finance and international cooperation in this field. The report concludes with new challenges for Thai education presenting guidelines and proposals for educational reform.
Preparation of "Education in Thailand 1998" would not have been possible without the ready cooperation of the various agencies concerned for which ONEC would like to record its grateful thanks. ONEC therefore ventures to hope that such cooperation would continue to be accorded in the years to come.
